Our bird photographs are to be found in the left-hand column, classified by scientific order, then by family. In spite of all our precautions, we may have missed some mistakes in identifying the birds. Do not hesitate to mail us your remarks. Finally those photos in an orange frame are those of birds present in French Guiana but photographed in a neighbouring country by a member of the Gepog.
It may seem paradoxical to say that birds are difficult to watch in French Guiana in view of the fact that more than 700 species are to be found! Yet, if species are numerous, individuals are much less so, some, like the Harpy Eagle are "naturally" rare as a consequence of their immense territories: over 10 000 hectares for a pair. Moreover many species move around together in what is called "rounds". It is thus possible to walk for hours in a forest without seeing much, to be suddenly surrounded by so many birds that you don't know where to look.
