Education and environment
On January 1st 2007, the population of French Guiana was officially 209 000 inhabitants, 90% of them living on the coast. But with one of the highest growth rate for France (a little over 3%) and the highest fertility rate for France (4 children per woman against an average of 1.9), within a few years, more than today, the inhabitants and decision-makers of French Guiana will have to find a decisive way to conciliate protection of the environment and human needs. This is the context in which education to the environment is crucial.
The GEPOG aims at helping the younger generations to discover the richess of the world around them, and making them aware of the importance of the natural heritage for our common future.
The association organises various activities in schools: games, events and outings.

As for the general public, they can discover the world of Guianan birds through outings, lectures, publications, or exhibitions organized by the GEPOG.
